Lymphapress

Lymph edema is a common complication post-surgery in breast cancer patient, this can be dealt with new tools like a lympharesis machine, which reduces it instantly. Mumbai oncocare provides this services to our patients, which is first time in the city.

How does Lymphapress Work?

The Lympha Press® device applies pressure in sequence from the farthest (most distal) part of the limb, proximally towards the body. The pressure wave is created by up to 12 overlapping inflatable chambers inside a special garment, or “sleeve,” which is fastened around the area to be treated. Each chamber inflates in sequence, applying a smooth directional massage action that assists trapped lymphatic fluid to find its way to alternative, open lymphatic channels. Once the sequence is complete, the Lympha Press® releases the pressure, allowing the emptied lymphatics to refill. Then the process starts over again, and is repeated for the length of the prescribed treatment session.

The three treatment cycle lymphapress offers are:

  • Pre-therapy Cycle: The Pre-therapy treatment is a gentle massage of the proximal lymphatics, with the purpose of priming the lymph vessels prior to the full treatment.
  • Lympha Gradient Cycle (sequential): The cells in the garment inflate one by one, starting over the hand or foot. This creates a gentle milking pressure wave which facilitates the movement of the edema.
  • Wave Cycle (peristaltic dynamic compression): Only two cells are inflated at any time, moving in a waveform up the limb to the torso.
